A Daily Muḥāsabah Checklist for Ṣalāh
Prayer is the one act of worship repeated five times a day, which makes it uniquely easy to do on autopilot — the motions right, the mind somewhere else entirely. A short daily checklist, reviewed at night, catches what autopilot misses.
Timing
Did I pray each ṣalāh in its window, or push it to the very end out of habit rather than a real excuse? Which prayer today was the hardest to get up for, and why?
Presence
In how many of today's prayers was I actually present — aware of what I was saying — rather than reciting from memory while thinking about something else entirely? Which specific prayer today did I feel most connected in, and what was different about it?
Physical care
Did I rush any part of the prayer — the rukūʿ, the sujūd — to get it over with? Was my wuḍūʾ done properly, or was that rushed too?
Beyond the fard
Did I pray any sunnah rakʿāt today, or did the fard alone happen to be all that fit? What would it take to add even one more?
None of this needs to be a long ritual — three or four honest lines, most nights, will tell you more about the actual state of your prayer over a month than any amount of vague good intention. If it's worth remembering at a larger scale, seal a summary to a future date and see whether the pattern actually changed.
