Ramaḍān Checklist: Everything to Prepare Before the Month Begins
Ramaḍān rewards preparation more than almost any other time of year — the people who walk in with a plan tend to get far more out of the month than those who let day one arrive and figure it out as they go. Here's a practical checklist, split into three parts.
Spiritual preparation
Decide on a Qur'an goal now — a full khatm, a specific surah studied properly, whatever's realistic for your life this year. Pick one habit you want to build during the month and carry past it — not five. Settle any outstanding tawbah you've been putting off; walking into Ramaḍān already clean of a lingering guilt changes the whole month.
Physical preparation
Start adjusting sleep and caffeine a week or two out rather than switching cold on day one. Stock suhoor foods that actually carry you through the day — protein and slow-release carbs, not just whatever's quick. Sort out your prayer space at home and at work if you'll be praying somewhere other than usual.
Logistical preparation
Sort out who you're breaking fast with on which nights, especially the first few. Decide in advance which nights you're doing taraweeh and where. Clear anything from your calendar during the last ten nights that would compete with them, if that's within your control.
It's also worth writing your intentions down before the month starts — not just thinking them — so that on the 20th night, tired and running low, you have something concrete to return to instead of trying to remember what you meant on day one.
Write a letter tonight. Seal it to a date that means something.
